TALC District Correspondence and other material 1960-1970.

Records in this series comprise those pertaining to The American Lutheran Church (TALC) geographic districts. They were generated or retained by the Rev. Fredrik A. Schiotz, president of TALC from 1960-1971. Material dates from 1960-1970 and includes typewritten and handwritten business correspondence with additional types of records. While the bulk of the records is business correspondence, there are other records that were retained during the course of Pastor Schiotz's efforts to keep informed as to the work and issues of the geographic districts comprising the congregations of TALC, while also advising these districts. Other record types include meeting minutes and agenda, meeting exhibits, district newsletters, newspaper clippings, district convention reports, and district constitutions and bylaws. Subject matter of correspondence includes meeting and travel arrangements, scheduling issues, matters related to placement of seminary students in places of call, licensing of lay persons to perform certain rites, congratulatory letters, district conventions, and general inquires of the president by district presidents.

The American Lutheran Church (1961-1987) was formed by the merger of the American Lutheran Church (1930-1960), the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church. Representatives from each of the constitutent churches formed the Joint Union Committee in 1950 to effect the merger. Presidents of the constituent bodies at the merger were Henry F.
